Artist Statement
As an artist, I delve into the raw, intricate tapestries of human stories, capturing the essence of each individual I paint. My portraits are more than mere representations of faces; they are visual narratives that unveil the profound beauty found in truth and experience.
In today’s world, social media often presents a curated façade of perfection, concealing the real and often tumultuous journey each person undergoes. My work challenges this norm by revealing, rather than hiding, the life events and scars that shape who we are. I listen to each person’s story, absorbing the elements that have defined their journey. These elements—be they memories, triumphs, hardships, or scars—become integral parts of my paintings.
Through this artistic process, I celebrate the beauty of authenticity. Each portrait is a testament to the unique, unfiltered human experience, emphasizing that our imperfections and stories are what truly make us beautiful. My work is a statement against the portrayal of fantasy-perfect lives, advocating instead for the recognition and appreciation of our real, lived experiences.
Drawing Serendipities – Daily Drawings
I’m thrilled by the infinity of beings I discover behind blind lines or colors, their imaginary lives and stories.
“The stories and emotions illustrated through lines on sculptures – as also seen on the 100 Urban Faces – leave the paper and enrich themselves to the plasticity of clay. The flat, two-dimensional, intuitive drawing and its urge to become three-dimensional characterize a big part of my work. ”
About the artist
Atamayka is an artist from Venezuela who lives in Austria. Born in 1970 in Caracas, she spends her childhood between the Venezuelan capital and Austin, Texas, in the United States. This “short trip to Europe” has now lasted twenty four years … Parallel to her artistic work, she has been working as a graphic designer in Austria since 2007.
