Putting a good face on bad times

With this video I highlight the difference in the ways we, as humans, react to the same stimulus – in this case: rain. Storm and rain are traditional symbols for bad omen, but at the same time it would be seen as a blessing for a Gardner.

For me, having a good sense of humor towards whatever happens in life and being from Venezuela go together. We laugh about absolutely everything, including the bad & bitter. More about humor and Venezuela, here in my blog. Music is from my son Nicolaas M. van der Meulen R.

“Step aside” – starring: The Ice Cream Girl

The “Ice Cream Girl” is one of the ceramic wall sculptures from the 100 Urban Faces series.
I made this song up years ago, I think in 2010, as a joke for my son. If you’re a mom, you’ll get me. We spend lots of time inventing songs so that our kids behave, eat or have fun. By the way, that is my son in the video.

A rose is a rose is a rose – Collage

A rose is a rose is a rose because that is what it is…

This collage started out of three pieces of paper: one with a picture of a rose, one of a bead armband and one of a textured brick wall with a dry tree branch on it. I find her legs very attractive. And what do you think about the music? My son composed it for the video above, I’m so proud of him!

Music: Nicolaas van der Meulen R.

Marita – Daily Drawings series

This lady forms part of my Daily Drawings series. I like the expression on her face very much. There’s a roughness in her and maybe a readiness to fight or be harsh that contrasts completely with the rather fine and peaceful musical background.

This drawing in sepia ink on aquarelle paper is available, please write to art@atamayka.com for details.

Alfred – 100 Urban Faces series

Serendipity had it that these lines made with my eyes closed, turned into a portrait of a fine gentelman I know called Alfred. I used to see him around in town, and he had the most beautiful white hair I’d ever seen.

This face or wall sculpture belongs to the 100 Urban Faces Series.
